To increase the spectral efficiency, more sub-carriers are packed into a given frequency band in spectrally efficient frequency division multiplexing (SEFDM) than in conventional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). Compared to OFDM, the sub-carrier spacing is reduced, so inter-carrier interference (ICI) is inherently induced in SEFDM. Hence, to achieve maximum performance of SEFDM, the ICI should be estimated and compensated within a receiver. Several ICI estimation schemes have been proposed for SEFDM, but unfortunately, the complexity required for ICI estimation is relatively high, especially when there is a large number of subcarriers. In this paper, a reduced-complexity ICI estimation scheme is proposed. By using the proposed scheme, virtually identical bit error rate performance can be achieved with less complexity than previously proposed ICI estimators for SEFDM. |
